We live in an individualistic world, and thrive off of competition. But I would encourage you to compete with yourself, and not with others. Work alongside others, nourish a sense of community, and help each other thrive.
People were made for community. We all crave it, and we all need it. I am an introvert, so I may need my own time apart from other people, but that certainly does not mean that I want to be on my own 24/7. We all have different strengths and expertise, and can benefit so much by finding a community and nourishing it.
Invest in your community, and they will invest in you.
In this journey with Simply Steph Ko, I have connected with many people who were once strangers. We like and comment on each others Instagram posts, we email and ask each other questions, and we always encourage one another.
One of the most rewarding aspects of finding community has been also finding fellowship and communion with other Christians. There are always days where I feel discouraged. I am not sure why I am doing this, any of this. Why do I bother to show up every day? Why do I bother to live creatively? And why do I bother mixing my faith with my work?
The encouragement I get from those in my various communities remind me all the time of what it is that I do. They drive me forward and push me to do better and to do more. I am reminded all the time that I do this all for the glory of God.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16 ESV)
If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31 ESV)
Community Over Competition
Share your secrets. Yes, you read that right, share your secrets! Teach what you know. If you are really good at watercolour painting, then teach that. If you are really good at storytelling, then teach that. There is so much that we can learn from each others. Pass it on, and keep the spirit of sharing secrets alive.
Don’t be afraid of nurturing your competition. Remember- community over competition. We’re all in this together, and we each have our individual style, so let your style shine.
There is enough room for everyone, so let’s all help each other out.
PS. I’d love to know,
In what ways has community been able to support you?
Do you struggle with finding a suitable community?
