I hope you enjoy the Behind the Card series! It will continue indefinitely as I add more cards to my shop 🙂 But today, I want to tell you the story behind the name Simply Steph Ko! When I tell someone in person that my brand’s name is Simply Steph Ko, they often think I’m saying Simply Steph Company. Haha! I’m not a very punny person, but that’s one pun I can get behind.
I began blogging under the moniker Simply Steph in 2011, for a couple of reasons. I love simplicity and minimalism, I really do! You can probably see it creep into my design tastes. And the other is that I love alliterations. They are by far my favourite literary device, for no real reason other than I like them.
When I decided that I wanted to take that step from blogging quietly and into the creative entrepreneurship world, I couldn’t go with Simply Steph, because it is already being used on Instagram, as a web domain name, etc. I had the chance to change my name to something completely different, and I considered taking my name out completely. I recruited my friend Janice to help me come up with a new name. We toyed with all sorts of ideas, but in the end my favourite suggestion was Simply Steph Ko.
Simply Steph Ko continues to capture all that I am about.
I still love simplicity and minimalism. I still love alliterations. But even more than that, Simply Steph Ko captures my mission as a Christian. I hope to live simply and humbly in order for God to increase, and myself to decrease (John 3:30). This verse is the theme verse behind Simply Steph Ko. I hope that God can be made known, and that He can be glorified through the creations that I showcase here. For this reason, I love to make Christian cards and prints. I do also make silly ones, cause well what is life without a bit of silliness? You can read more about how I join my work and my faith in this post here!
I sincerely believe that God alone is worthy of glory and honour. He is Creator, King, and Saviour. In that vein, I don’t want to boast about anything other than Him. Not any artistic talent, not any business ability, not anything at all. Not unless it is for Him and from Him. I hope that you are able to see my vision made clear in my cards and prints. If I ever lose sight of my purpose, please please please take me aside and remind me that all I do is for the glory of God alone.
