The #1 thing that has helped me build Simply Steph Ko is showing up every day. Not only showing up regularly, or weekly, but every single day. If you want to find your passion, or master your craft, the best thing you can do for yourself is to show up every day.
The first thing you need to do is commit.
Wherever you are in your journey, you will benefit from committing to daily discipline. Commit to your craft, to your passion, to your goal. Do you want it badly enough?
I want to build Simply Steph Ko. And that means I need to improve my calligraphy, create card and print designs, write blog posts, take photos, and the list goes on.. There are many things involved, and if I care about Simply Steph Ko, and if I care about creating greeting cards that exemplify the sharing of encouragement, joy, and love- then I will commit to building Simply Steph Ko, and all the tasks that it involves.
I also want to have a healthy relationship with God, and I want my relationship with God to be part of my personal ministry through Simply Steph Ko. I want to share my spiritual walk, and I want to encourage others who are similarly looking to the love of Jesus Christ. If I want to see these goals realized, then I need to commit. I need to show up.
Next, find yourself an accountability partner.
This could be a friend in real life, or a stranger on the internet. Put yourself out there and let someone else into your world. Or maybe, both! For me, it’s both. It’s my blog, it’s Instagram, it’s my friends in real life. People see what I do, and ask me how it’s going. The hardest part for me was to let people in. But you need to let people in, if you want to reach people. It sounds simple, doesn’t it?
Finally, build discipline.
The sun is up? That’s a sign that you should do something. Committing, and doing something consistently will build your discipline. Show up every single day for a month, and then a year, and then two years, and suddenly it’s a habit!
And dear Christians, this is where I struggle in my own life. Translate this approach to your Bible reading and prayer time, and your walk with God will skyrocket. I promise.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
– James 4:8
Is there anything in your life that you do every day, without fail? Has it become a habit? I challenge you to build a disciplined routine.
I’m on month 10 of my calligraphy journey, and month 3 of Simply Steph Ko. Six months ago, I started practicing calligraphy every single day. Despite my busy full time student responsibilities, I continue to do something every single day, whether that be a personal project, a client project, writing a blog post, or taking photos for my shop.. I have been doing something for Simply Steph Ko every single day for six months now. I haven’t yet hit the one year mark, and I look forward to the two year mark. Won’t you journey with me, and see what 1 or 2 years, or even a lifetime of showing up daily looks like?
Have you committed to showing up every day, and doing something daily? How has that changed things for you? I’d love to know!
